Lazy Sunday

Today was a nice lazy Sunday. Mom had to get up early for the Youth Sunday service. When she left I went right back to bed. I napped on the living room floor, the dog bed in the living room, and finally the couch. Jenny was watching a show but I just shared the space with her. Eventually she had to leave for her errands, but by then mom was on her way home! When she got back we took another nap. She was tired from all the work getting ready for the service. Everything went really well though and people loved the slideshow she made!

Dusk

We just got back from walking by the beach. The first thing I noticed was how pretty the view was at dusk out there...and how sad it was that there was a woman sitting on the rocks, talking on her cell phone, while the two kids with her sat facing the lake playing on their Nintendo DS. Sad. Why? When you could be looking at this view!

I was so excited to be outside tonight. There were a lot of people and dogs too. There was some kind of picnic thing going on in the park (I smelled it from up the street). We met Jenny's mom over there but I had so much energy that I could not sit still to visit with her. I got to sit on the rocks and watch the waves again.

Mom even climbed on the rocks and sat with me for a while. That was the best part. Another part of the evening that you can't see here is one of those "smell-o-vision" moments cause the house smelled like bacon all night. Mom is getting ready for the Youth Sunday service and part of that involved cooking for the brunch. She finished the slideshow for the seniors this morning and now it's ready to be shown tomorrow. It's pretty awesome! I can't wait for all the families to enjoy it at the service.

Room with a view

Apparently there was a bit of an adventure that took place BEFORE anyone came home to let me out...Mom and Jenny met after work to do some errands downtown. Something about Jamba Juice, CVS and a Mother's Day balloon for Brad? I don't know what all that is about, but I can't believe they went to the camera store without me! I love going to the camera store downtown. I get to see all kinds of people and visit with the guys that work there. They're all okay guys. I heard Brad seemed to be in a bad mood, which is how the balloon thing came about, but I haven't seen any pictures yet.
Today I realized that I can see out of the window by standing on the new furniture that was built for the cats! I can already tell when mom comes home because I know the sound of her car, but now I can see all sorts of other stuff that I could only smell before. Like I saw a bunch of dogs being walked down on the street and lots of people walking by too. We all watched a movie tonight and then Jenny fell asleep on the floor. I guess the work stuff that they do all day makes them tired.

Dog chow

Tonight was not the most eventful evening of the week. But there was one important development...I ran out of food and got a huge new bag that weighs 30 pounds! I eat an all natural sweet potato and fish flavor dry food.

Mom says I was a picky eater but she also likes that this food doesn't have any of that bad stuff in it like some of the other kinds of food. Speaking of food, there are some things I'm not really picky about. Like treats. I like all kinds of them! And sticks. I REALLY love sticks!! Mom says maybe too much because sometimes I go a little overboard with them.

One thing I enjoy as a special treat is ice cubes! I have a blast chewing them up and chasing the pieces all over the floor. I know Jenny's new friend Karl doesn't like ice, but she says it's okay for me to just keep the ice cube thing to myself whenever Karl is around. I am still waiting patiently to meet his dog, Reggie, because I've been told I will like her and I've never met an Elkhound before so it's extra exciting!

Social butterfly

Another long walk and new friends. Tonight I met a pretty brindle greyhound and a black lab mix early in our walk. It was hard to play with the lab because we were all on our leashes and the man had both of his dogs to keep hold of while I romped with only one of them. Towards the end of our walk we stopped in the park to sit on the rocks (I told you I live right at the beach!) and watch the waves go by...

When we got ready to leave the park Grace-Ann showed up to play. She is a small Corgi mix of some sort. Her owner said I was "her kind of guy," whatever that means. She chased me all around and made snarly noises. I LOVED it. A large dog named Otis also came over to say hi before we left the park. He was pretty big and seemed like a shepherd mix with super big ears that stood straight up! I have a great time on these long walks and it is so much fun to meet new dog friends. I overheard Jenny on the phone telling her boss that she looks forward to walking me after a stressful day of work. Maybe I should be charging for her to take me out? ;)

Walking and talking

I just got back from a long walk. Jenny took me with her when she went to take the garbage out but ended up on the phone for forty minutes. So we just kept walking. Score! It started to rain but I was having so much fun sniffing everything it didn't matter. I made a new dog-friend on our way back home. A husky. Hopefully we will meet again because we had a LOT of fun in the few minutes we got to play. There's no picture from tonight, but I added this one just cause. The people in the house say having a picture from right now wouldn't matter unless you had "smell-o-vision" on your computer to get the wet dog smell in person. People are weird.

Felidae & Canidae

Cats and dogs. We're not really supposed to get along.

Gracie and Bella came to live with us when they were 7 weeks old. They were the last two left in a litter. What was I supposed to do?

Bella is bigger and usually quieter. She tends to be sneakier in her mischief.

Gracie is small but mighty. She has an opinion on just about everything and is not afraid to share it.

Everyone always asks...how can you tell them apart? Gracie has the white mark on her chest (see above)...but that may not help identify which kitty is which in a situation like the wrestling match below.
Either way, they are pretty cute and we all get along well. Sometimes I chase the cats when they are acting crazy, but I never hurt them. They don't seem to mind because they never swat at me or complain by hissing! Mom says they should smack me if I bother them too much. I think it would be fun to have another dog around to play with, but having two cats is not bad either. Shhh! Don't tell my dog friends I said that!

BBQ in the park

Today was the church barbecue...It was great! I got to visit with a lot of people from the church and different youth groups. There were a couple softball games. My friend Sam was there too!

During one of the games the ball came over to us and we fielded it like pros.
It was a little cloudy but the rain didn't come until after we were all packed up to go. During the day I got to show off my new skills with a bunch of high fives and waving.

Kitty city

So another thing I forgot to mention...I live with two cats: Gracie and Bella. Today mom decided to build them their own cat furniture from scratch. Like literally, all these pieces of wood turned into that furniture! Mom said the best part is that it only cost $35 to make it ourselves! There is actually a bunch of extra wood so the thing itself is probably even less if you only count the pieces used. So far the cats love it! It was made just for cats so they can scratch all of it...instead of the couch or anything else. It took a while to put everything together but it is all done now and it fits perfectly by the window. We are all very tired after working on the kitty furniture, okay so I was running around most of the time or napping...but either way we have a big day tomorrow with the barbecue for the church. I can't wait to run around the park and visit with everyone! Off to bed.

Joining the circus

I started clicker training. Mom says I should be "earning my keep" anyway. So far it is really neat. All I have to do is perform a simple task and then I get rewarded. Sweet. I already knew the basics, but now I can do three variations of a basic behavior: wave, give paw, and high five. Not too bad for the second day of training! Everyone says how cute I am (I know) so hopefully I can make a career out of that (being cute).

Location, location, location

I live at the beach. Really. When you walk out the front door and turn right, there it is! Tonight it was so pretty out that Mom and Jenny took me to the park up the street. I haven't mentioned Jenny before so I should explain who she is...She went to high school with my mom and she has been living with us. Sometimes when mom is working, she drives me all over and takes lots of pictures of me too.

Okay, back to the adventure tonight...It started out like just another walk to the park, but then we met Forest and Penny. Forest is an older beagle and Penny is a young mixed breed dog. We had so much fun running and playing in the park! At first I chased Penny all over and Forest tried to keep up. Eventually he gave up and just watched me and Penny run around. Before my leash was taken off I broke the pick up bag holder by accident when it got caught on the swing set. Mom said it's okay and we will get another one. I had a lot of fun running around with Penny and Forest and giving them kisses. I slobbered all over Penny which Mom and Jenny said was gross because she was all wet when they tried to pet her.

The Early Years...

Mom thought it would be fun for me to put up baby pictures. Luckily Mom saved all of these and they are digital. I was only 13 weeks when Mom rescued me from Wright Way Rescue in the suburbs of Chicago. I weighed 19 pounds back then...and now I am a whopping 80 pounds of a big boy!

Here I am getting ready to play ball...

My first night with Mom, waiting like a good boy for dinner...

This was my first and last rope toy...

The first time I saw a TV!

And after all my new adventures, I passed out!

Look at the sleepy puppy!

Welcome!

Hi!

My name is Gideon. That's me in the picture. I am a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Lab mix. I will be 2 years old this summer.

I thought it was time to start writing about all of my adventures. I just got my website, so I started with a blog.
